I read this book thinking that I would be able to relate to it as I am also a part of the same domain; the so called glorified IT. And guess what, I did relate to a lot of things mentioned,as I had seen them happen while I was working or I heard from people around me. It is a simple, light read with the right intention but a different perspective.
The title is Techie@Heart but the author doesn’t discuss that in the depth as he discusses the socioeconomic factors. Though they do influence , but they just influence not drive the techie towards a goal. There were some things that astound me. We will live in technological world, we believe that our deeds make our future then why do we want the stars to predict our future. Well, that is my opinion, but I find it funny. If things are not going your way, either you are wrong, or its the time of things around you to go wrong. You change the path, take a turn or make a new way rather than consulting someone on which ring to wear. Not just in the book but in general a very contradicting issue.
It does point out a difference between being an employee for a giant MNC and working on your own and employing others. The typical arrange marriage vs love marriage angle prevalent in most families now also is showed too. With the ups and downs in his personal and professional life, the way the main character paved out a way is good. But he realizes too late. For those who don’t know that politics is a prominent feature that comes free with worklife in IT, this is a good read and for those who already do, can smile over the lines stating the fact.
Overall, it was a good read. When you want to relax and read something that doesn’t stimulate a lot of thoughts, you can go ahead with it. If you are traveling, this might make a good companion.
