To be or not to be(an Migrant/Foreign National/Expatriate/Immigrant)
Call it whatever name but these people are everywhere in the world. People leave their home country for a reason. Be it good job opportunities, better infrastructure, clean air etc..
Moving abroad, migrating—as much as it brings possibilities and opportunities, it also inexorably entails many losses that are hardly ever mentioned.
Pre migration
Everyone does their research and meets the criteria for the main requirements such as:
- Visa requirements
- Valid Passport
- Flights
- Living Arrangements
- Employment/Business
- and so on..
But what people don’t realise is that there are lot of factors affecting adaptability, happiness, content in life.
- Culture: The destination country might be totally a different culture and in spite of doing all the research you just don’t fit in and feel awkward all the time.
- Distance from Home country: Sometimes situation arise where you have to rush back to your hometown as your parents not keeping well or there has been some situation which needs your urgent attention.
- Language: Most English speaking countries don’t have this issue , but there are many non- English speaking countries which offer amazing opportunities, great standard of life and a good place for raising your kids. But is that enough to be comfortable in another country , speaking a different language, when you have been communicating in a different language since 20 years or so.
So every Expat weighs these factors and obviously chooses what brings the best for them and their family.
When you join a new organisation in most cases, you have mentor/buddy/guide to help you navigate simple-complex queries with settling in the new organisation. But when you move to a new country, you might some friends and close family friends guiding you but they are not going to be available all the time or for all issues. In short, you are all on your own.
So I thought of writing a guide about things to consider when moving to Australia. There are many topics we can look at which items which you would need in various categories.
For here is a review of things which you might useful.
- Vacuum Cleaners: If you moved to fully furnished rented apartment, you might have been provided with one. But just in case you need to upgrade or you haven’t got one at your current rental property, here are a few models that you can review.
- Car seats for children: If you have children under 4, you will have a long list of things to buy after moving overseas. The first important item would be a car seat and here are few of the best sellers.
- Tech: Earbuds and Headphones: This might not be one of your top priorities but in case you have missed getting a good headphone/earbud while travelling, here are a few options that can be considered:
- Water filter Jug: Although it is safe to drink tap water, there are places where its preferred to use a water filter jug. A good water filter can remove chlorine, particulates, heavy metals, and other contaminants, leaving you with clean, fresh-tasting water
I hope you find these recommendations useful and enjoy your stay in this new country.
